DUBAI, UAE — Dubai’s leading community-driven pop culture convention, Sandbox Swapmeet Volume 8, officially opened from May 28 to 31, 2026, at Sheikh Saeed Halls 2 & 3 of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), drawing significant attention from pop culture fans and creative communities across the UAE and beyond.
Organized in partnership with DXB LIVE, presented by Sandstorm Comics, and powered by Virgin Megastore Tickets, the event is widely recognized as Dubai’s first large-scale pop culture convention created “By the Community, For the Community.”

The event also highlights the growing cultural collaboration between Sandbox Swapmeet and Gulf Korean Times following the successful three-day Korean Culture Festival held last February. The festival received strong support from local audiences through K-POP performances, Korean brands, art showcases, and lifestyle content, further strengthening cultural exchange between Korea and the Middle East.
More than just an entertainment event, Sandbox Swapmeet Volume 8 has become a symbol of creativity, diversity, and community spirit within the UAE’s multicultural society.
The convention features a wide range of attractions including trading cards and sports cards, gaming zones, cosplay showcases, artist alleys, collector booths, exclusive merchandise drops, and live performances, creating an immersive experience for visitors of all ages and nationalities.
Abdulla Alsuwaidi, Owner of Sandbox Events, stated, “Sandbox was built as a space where people can freely gather and express themselves. Today, it has grown into a much larger platform where different communities come together as one.” He added, “We are back, united, and ready for the big stage.”
Lee Charles Dalena, Co-Founder of Sandbox, also reflected on the platform’s rapid growth, saying, “What started as a small gathering among friends after the pandemic has now evolved into a major convention at DWTC. Our long-term vision is to expand Sandbox beyond the UAE and eventually into the global market.”
Ambrosio Brian Enciso III, Philippine Consul General in Dubai, emphasized the deeper cultural value of the event, stating, “Pop culture is more than entertainment — it is a language of connection that allows people from different backgrounds to feel seen, accepted, and united.”
Ambassador Laila Rahhal El Atfani, Founder and CEO of Business Gate and Woman Business Circle, also praised the event for promoting family unity, creativity, and cultural collaboration within the UAE community.
Throughout the four-day event, attendees are experiencing a vibrant mix of anime, gaming, K-POP, collectibles, LEGO, die-cast models, Tamiya racing, Beyblade competitions, and cosplay culture — reflecting Dubai’s unique multicultural identity and creative energy.
Gulf Korean Times stated that it will continue to collaborate with Sandbox Swapmeet on future cultural initiatives aimed at expanding Korean cultural content and strengthening K-culture engagement across the Middle East.
