Aisha Alabbar Gallery presents In The Space of Becoming

IN THE SPACE OF BECOMING MARKS ALIA LOOTAH’S FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION AT AISHA ALABBAR GALLERY. THIS EXHIBITION BRINGS TOGETHER PAINTING, DRAWING, AND SCULPTURE TO REFLECT ON FORM AS SOMETHING CONTINUALLY IN MOTION NEVER FIXED, ONLY MOMENTARILY AT REST, ROOTED IN REPETITION, ATTENTION, AND TIME. THE EXHIBITION INVITES VIEWERS TO SLOW DOWN AND OBSERVE FORMS AS THEY UNFOLD, LINGER, AND EVOLVE, EXISTING IN A STATE OF BECOMING RATHER THAN ARRIVAL.

Event Details: Opening Date | January 17, 2026

Time: 6 to 9 PM

Venue: Aisha Alabbar Gallery, Alserkal Avenue,Warehouse C19

"A form is never finished, only paused." Alia Lootah

In this new body of work, Alia Lootah deepens her exploration of how form moves, shifts, and transforms across painting, drawing, and sculpture. Her practice traces the life of shapes as they stretch, collapse, and reappear in altered states, existing in a space between recognition and ambiguity. Knitted sculptures anchor the exhibition, demonstrating how simple materials can generate complexity through repetition and touch. For Lootah, knitting is a meditative, rhythmic act shaped by memory and labor. These pliant structures counter the solidity of their pedestals, highlighting tensions between softness and stability, movement and stillness. Everyday materials connect the works to domestic gestures and lived experience while keeping their meanings open and evolving. Her paintings and drawings echo the internal motion of the sculptural pieces, with lines that loop back, fragment, and reconfigure. Ideas migrate fluidly between mediums, shifting their interpretations as they change material form. Together, these works offer a quiet meditation on transformation not as dramatic change but as slow, subtle evolution rooted in time, attention, and repeated gesture. The exhibition invites viewers to engage patiently, witnessing forms that are always unfolding, always becoming.

CURRENTLY SHOWING

CLOSING | Marks of Return by Salma Dib

Date: January 10, 2026

Time: 10 AM to 6:00 PM

Aisha Alabbar Gallery invites you to experience the final days of Marks of Return, a powerful exhibition by Salma Dib that positions the wall not as a neutral boundary, but as a living witness one that absorbs memory, resistance, and collective voice. Rooted in the visual language of Palestinian street walls, Dib's works translate inscription, layering, and interruption into painterly surfaces that hold testimony against erasure. Scraped, overlapped, and fragmented, the works reflect the precariousness of memory and the persistence of resistance, where each mark becomes both protection and amplification. At the heart of the exhibition is a monumental work composed of 25 individual panels, forming a unified yet fractured archive. Together, they speak to time, endurance, and the collective act of holding memory together in the face of disappearance. As the exhibition comes to a close on 10 January, we invite you to visit and engage with a body of work that affirms the wall as a site of resilience where voices refuse silence, and where belonging, dignity, and future continue to be written.
