Aisha Alabbar Gallery is delighted to participate in Art Dubai for the second time with a presentation of Emirati artist Alia Hussain Lootah (b. Dubai, 1987).
Alia’s new body of work explores a sense of ease and fluidity, manifesting in a playful engagement with light and shadows that transcends the constraints of the past, inviting viewers to engage with the whimsical dance of light and shadow.
Central to this series are wireframe sculptures characterized by their playful, moving, and forgiving nature, that serve as the foundational elements of Lootah's artistic exploration. Crafted through the meditative practice of knitting, these sculptures hold a special place in the artist's heart as they tap into her feminine energy, drawing inspiration from the historical association of women with the age-old tradition of knitting.
Lootah's innovation use of shadows cast by these wireframe sculptures becomes a pivotal aspect of her creative process. Employing a projector, she transforms these shadows into vibrant paintings, infusing her artwork with a dynamic and multidimensional quality.
